Dr. Rafael van Rienen
Dr. Rafael van Rienen was born 1983 in Bonn, where he went to law school and also earned his doctorate. After the Second State Exam at the beginning of 2010 and a following stint as a member of the legal staff in the Cologne office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, he started his LL.M. studies at the University of Chicago. After his LL.M. graduation in the summer of 2011, Dr. van Rienen passed the bar exam in New York, where he has been admitted to the bar since January 2012. In October 2011, he started his career as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins LLP in the White Collar & Investigations practice group. Dr. van Rienen transferred to Latham´s Frankfurt office in October 2012, where he continued to practice in the white collar field. In August 2017, he moved to Ufer Knauer as Salary Partner. Dr. van Rienen joined LIVONIUS Rechtsanwälte in June 2020.
Dr. van Rienen´s practice focuses on international criminal defense matters. In particular, he defends corporations, management and employees in German and U.S. government investigations. In addition, Dr. van Rienen provides criminal defense advice to corporations regarding internal investigations in Germany and abroad.
Dr. van Rienen is a member of the Wirtschaftsstrafrechtliche Vereinigung (WisteV e.V.), the Deutscher Strafverteidiger e.V. and the University of Chicago Law School Alumni Germany.
